I am the Senior Demographer for the Center of Population Studies and State Data Center at the University of Mississippi. My research focuses on the political economy of temporary/seasonal migration.
I received my M.A and Ph.D in Political Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara, where I was also affiliated with the institution’s Broom Center for Demography, Center for Middle East Studies, and the Energy Governance and Political Economy (EGAPE) Lab. My dissertation focused on three issues: (1) the conditions with which migrant-sending states pursue labor protection policies for their emigrants working within the Persian Gulf’s kafala system, (2) how Bangladeshi migrant workers’ mistreatment and experiences in the Persian Gulf shape their domestic political attitudes upon return, and (3) how migration policy interventions affect remittance transfer fees. I also hold a Bachelor’s in Economics and a Bachelor’s in Political Science from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
